History

Douglas is located in southern Marshall County in the northeastern part of the state.  It has a mayor/city council form of government.

History

First settled in the mid-nineteenth century, Douglas has remained primarily a farming community.  Its first school was built in 1898, and the Douglas Academy was built in 1909.  The first elementary school was built in 1921, the first junior high in 1926, and the first high school in 1932.  Its first water system was built in 1966, and the town incorporated in 1978.

Demographics

Douglas population according to the 2010 Census was 744.  The Town’s median household income, according to 2010 estimates, was $46,750, and the per capita income was $19,080.

Education

Schools in Douglas are part of the Marshall County School System, the system has approximately 2,150 students and 125 teachers in primary school, elementary school, middle school and high school.

Events

Douglas has an annual Christmas parade and also maintains a sports complex that has baseball/softball fields.
